The Publicity Secretary for of the PDP in Osun State, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, said this in a statement in Osogbo on Tuesday.
The opposition party said it was unreasonable for the governor to spend the little resources accruing to the state on the governorship ambition of a candidate in another state.
The PDP recalled how Aregbesola allegedly wasted Osun State’s resources on the failed ambition of Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), who contested Ondo State governorship poll on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in 2012.
The statement read, “Governor Aregbesola is the financial backbone of the AD and its candidate using Bola Ilori, his Special Adviser on Environment as the main link.
“Why should Ondo governorship election be a source of concern to Osun people? Our governor, Ogbeni Aregbesola, has made it so by digging deep into the lean coffers of the state all in a bid to install Oke as the governor against the wish of his party, the APC.
“Osun workers have not been paid full salary in one and half years because the treasury has been drained. The government has embarked on secret retrenchment of civil servants to ease its wage bill, even when only half of their salaries are paid to them.”
But the Director-General of Olusola Oke Campaign Organisation, Mr. Bola Ilori, who debunked the allegation, said the PDP should be ignored.
Ilori, while speaking on the telephone with PUNCH correspondent on Tuesday, stated that Oke had not received any money from Osun State since he started his campaign.
The spokesperson for the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Mr. Kunle Oyatomi, also faulted the allegation levelled against Aregbesola by the PDP.
“Is Aregbesola a member of the AD? Do they have a proof that the governor is funding Oke’s ambition like they alleged?
“How much was spent on Oke? When was the payment made and what was was the mode of payment? They should give public answers to these questions; and until that is done, they should be ignored.”
