JOSE MOURINHO reportedly wants to make Jose Fonte his fifth major signing at Manchester United
Fonte has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford over the past few weeks.
The 32-year-old has admitted he is flattered to have been linked with a move to United.
"If the interest is there it is a reason to be flattered to be associated with a club like Manchester United," he told Portuguese outlet Maisfutebol.
"I will not deny that Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world and that makes me happy to be associated with it.”
And now the Guardian claim Mourinho wants to make him his fifth new recruit of the summer.
The report claims Mourinho wants to add the Southampton centre-back’s experience to his squad.
And the Portuguese is hopeful Fonte can aid the development of Eric Bailly, who has impressed since his £30million arrival from Villarreal.
Fonte, who started in Southampton’s 2-0 defeat at United last night, was part of the Portugal side that won Euro 2016.
And he could now follow Bailly, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Old Trafford.
